The Recoil Case launched in July 2022 with a set of community-created designs, many of which pushed toward playful and conceptually unusual aesthetics. Meow 36 appeared as a Mil-Spec FAMAS with a green base emblazoned with the number 36.
Meow 36's flavour text — 'Technically it's four cats, but who's counting?' — explains the name: 36 is 6 squared, and 6 is the traditional number on a six-sided die. Or, as the flavour text implies, 36 is nine cats if you consider nine lives per cat. Or four cats at nine lives each. The green base with '36' printed on it is deliberately understated for a Mil-Spec with such an intricate numerical joke.
Meow 36 is one of the most discussed FAMAS Mil-Spec skins for its absurdist design logic. The community engagement with the numerical riddle in the flavour text has given it a meme-adjacent cultural presence within CS2.
