Why shotguns are underrated in CS2

Shotguns get dismissed as "noob weapons," but the economics make them rational. The Nova costs $1,050 and gives $900 per kill – the highest kill reward of any weapon in CS2. Two Nova kills pay for the gun plus a full armor buy next round, which makes it a legitimate eco-round weapon. The MAG-7 ($1,300, $900 per kill) is a CT close-angle weapon – on tight choke points (Inferno Banana, Mirage B Apartments, Vertigo stairs) it can shut down a full rush. The Negev and M249 are different: machine guns built for area denial.

Best CS2 heavy weapon skins by weapon

Nova (38 skins)

The most-used heavy weapon in competitive CS2 – one-shot kill at close range, a staple on eco rounds.

• Antique ($5–$15 FN) – gold engraving on dark steel; the most expensive Nova skin.
• Hyper Beast ($2–$5 FN) – matches the AWP and M4 Hyper Beast.
• Koi ($1–$3) – Japanese koi fish design.
• Bloomstick ($0.50–$1.50) – floral pattern.

Budget under $0.30: Predator ($0.10–$0.30), Caged Steel ($0.03–$0.10), Wood Fired ($0.03).

MAG-7 (35 skins)

CT-side shotgun – semi-auto, dominates close-angle holds.

• Justice ($2–$5 FN) – bright pop-art comic style.
• SWAG-7 ($3–$8) – dollar-bill theme, the most unique MAG-7 concept.
• Petroglyph ($1–$3) – rock carving design.

Budget under $0.30: Heat ($0.10–$0.30), Bulldozer ($0.50–$1), Storm ($0.03).

XM1014 (38 skins)

Semi-auto shotgun with a higher fire rate than the Nova – used for aggressive pushes.

• Tranquility ($3–$8 FN) – blue-and-white floral, the cleanest XM1014 skin.
• Incinegator ($1–$3) – fire-and-alligator theme.
• Ziggy ($1–$3) – colorful zigzag pattern.

Budget under $0.10: Blue Spruce ($0.03), Grassland ($0.03), Scumbria ($0.03).

Sawed-Off, Negev & M249

• Sawed-Off (36 skins) – T-side, very short range. The Kraken ($3–$8 FN), Limelight ($1–$3), Wasteland Princess ($0.50–$2).
• Negev (30 skins) – machine gun with an accuracy mechanic for area denial. Loudmouth ($0.50–$1.50), Power Loader ($1–$3), Bratatat ($0.50–$1).
• M249 (28 skins) – the cheapest skins in CS2, mostly under $0.10. Magma ($0.50–$2) is the best by far, then Spectre ($0.50–$1).

Heavy weapon skin price factors

• Kill reward drives usage. The $900 kill reward on shotguns (3x what rifles give) means players actually buy them, creating base demand for Nova and MAG-7 skins.
• Loadout completeness. Players building full color-matched loadouts need heavy weapon skins to fill the set – and because they're so cheap, the cost is negligible.
• Almost no scarcity premium. Very few heavy weapon skins come from discontinued collections, so prices stay low.
