Why AWP skins are among the most expensive in CS2

The AWP is the defining weapon of Counter-Strike. Since 1999, it has been the most feared and most spectated gun in competitive play. AWP players are specialists — they build their entire playstyle around the weapon, making the AWP skin a key part of their identity. This emotional attachment drives demand far above other rifles.

The AWP also benefits from having several ultra-rare skin sources. The Dragon Lore drops from the Cobblestone Collection (discontinued Souvenir packages from Major tournaments), Gungnir comes from the Norse Collection, and Medusa from the Gods and Monsters Collection. All three are from limited, non-case sources, restricting supply and pushing prices to five figures.

Covert (red) — the premium tier

The AWP has 18 Covert skins, including several of the most expensive weapon skins in CS2:

• Dragon Lore ($4,392–$11,015) — The most famous skin in Counter-Strike history. A golden dragon illustration on the scope and body. Drops exclusively from the Cobblestone Collection via Souvenir packages from past Major tournaments. Souvenir Dragon Lores with desirable tournament stickers have traded for $50,000–$150,000+.
• Gungnir ($6,533–$10,268) — Norse mythology theme with Odin's spear. From the Norse Collection (St. Marc Collection package). Extremely limited supply. Often overlooked next to Dragon Lore but actually rarer and priced similarly.
• Medusa ($1,836–$4,499) — Greek mythology theme with Medusa's head. From the Gods and Monsters Collection. One of the most visually striking AWP skins.
• The Prince ($1,881–$2,990) — Purple and gold regal design from the Graphic Design Collection. Newer but already premium.
• Desert Hydra ($1,045–$1,942) — Multi-headed serpent design from the 2021 Mirage Collection. Souvenir versions available.
• Fade ($885–$963) — The only weapon with the Fade finish (normally reserved for knives). From the CS:GO Weapon Case — one of the oldest and rarest AWP skins. Remarkably stable pricing.
• Lightning Strike ($489–$514) — Purple lightning on a black body. From the original CS:GO Weapon Case (2013). Tight FN-only float range makes every copy look clean. A legend.
• Oni Taiji ($274–$826) — Japanese demon-slayer theme from the Operation Hydra Collection.
• Containment Breach ($49–$563) — SCP-inspired biohazard design.

• BOOM ($107–$518) — Comic-book explosion text on orange. From the original eSports 2014 Summer Case. Iconic and still rising in value due to discontinued source.
• Silk Tiger ($196–$785) — From the Recoil Case. Silk tiger pattern.
• Graphite ($160–$164) — From the CS:GO Weapon Case (2013). Carbon fiber design. Incredibly stable pricing — barely moves between FN and MW. A sticker-craft favorite.
• Redline ($35–$58) — Red pinstripes on dark. The budget classic.
• Electric Hive ($34–$136) — Honeycomb pattern with color variation by pattern seed.

Accessible AWP skins include Pink DDPAT ($32–$184 — iconic pink camo), Atheris ($3–$45), POP AWP ($8–$70), Exoskeleton ($4–$56), PAW ($2–$6 — cat paw prints, community favorite), and the budget picks: Snake Camo ($90–$470 — expensive for Mil-Spec due to the Bravo Collection), Black Nile ($3–$29), Acheron ($1–$14), Safari Mesh ($0.10–$16), and Sun in Leo ($21–$88).

Best AWP skins for the money

• Best overall: Asiimov FT (~$72). The classic AWP skin. Orange, black and white futuristic design. Looks clean in FT (which is the lowest condition it comes in — no BS or WW). Stable, liquid, and universally recognized.
• Best premium: Printstream FN (~$201) or MW (~$65). Black and white minimalist design. The most popular modern AWP skin. MW copies are great value at ~$65.
• Best budget: PAW FT (~$2) or Acheron FT (~$1). PAW has cute cat paw prints — a community favorite for under $2. Acheron is a clean dark design for $1.
• Best flex: Dragon Lore FT (~$4,400). The ultimate CS2 weapon skin. Nothing gets more attention in a lobby. FT is the value sweet spot — significantly cheaper than FN (~$11,000) while still looking impressive.
• Best mid-range: BOOM MW (~$107) or Lightning Strike FN (~$489). BOOM is iconic and rising in value. Lightning Strike is a classic that has barely changed in price in years — a stable store of value.
• Best for sticker crafts: Graphite FN (~$160) or Redline FT (~$35). Both have dark backgrounds that make stickers pop. Graphite is the premier sticker-craft AWP.
• Best for themed loadouts: Printstream (black/white), Asiimov (orange), Hyper Beast (colorful), Chromatic Aberration (pink), Containment Breach (green), Neo-Noir (dark/blue). See our skins by color page.

How float value and stickers affect AWP prices

Float value is critical on AWP skins because the scope body is large and highly visible. Scratches on the scope are immediately noticeable. Several AWP skins have restricted float ranges: Asiimov cannot drop in FN or MW (FT is the best condition), and Dragon Lore FN copies start at 0.01+ which makes ultra-low floats extremely valuable.

Stickers on the AWP scope are the most visible sticker placement in CS2. The scope is a large, flat surface that faces the player in first person. Katowice 2014 Holos on the scope of a Dragon Lore or Graphite can add $10,000–$100,000+ to the skin's value.
